Odisha is all set to get 45 medical seats back from the All India quota (AIQ). Newly returned seats of Odisha State quota will be allocated to the state's medical candidates through OJEE 2019 allotment process. The announcement about the return of medical seats from the Odisha State quota was done by the Board of Odisha Joint Entrance Examination. The OJEE Board also announced that provisional admission for these seats will be allotted on 30, 31 July and 1 August 2019.

At present, about 1400 medical seats are available in various medical colleges located in the state. About 15% of this has been reserved for All India Kota (AIQ), all of which are allocated to all Indian students based on the NEET 2019 merit rank.

Generally, after the completion of the All India level admission, the vacant seats are returned back to the state and added to the state of Odisha to fill the medical candidates from the state. Through this system, Odisha will get 45 additional medical seats allotted to students through OJEE allotment process for state quota.

In relation to the break-up of medical seats added in the state quota, SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCB MCH) got 6 seats from AIQ, while MKCG MCH Behrampur got 7 seats. Similarly, VIMSAR Burla has got 7 seats, Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College, Baripada has been given additional 5 seats, SLN MCH, Koraput has been given three additional seats, Govt Medical College, Balasore has 4 more seats, while Govt Medical College, Balangir 6 and SCB Dental College have added 8 seats.

After the announcement of OJEE Medical 1st Allotment Result 2019, a total of 259 MBBS and BDS seats were left vacant with State Quota. Now, with 49 seats of All India Kota (AIQ), the number has reached 304. Now, from 30 June 2019 to 1 August 2019, the second round result 2019 will be announced for a total of 304 seats. After the second round, if the seats are still vacant, they will be filled through the Spot Counseling Round in the OJEE office between 4 to 8 August 2019
